Baby booties pattern, clouds, Aloha???

We have clouds today!! Since we moved to Logandale, I am always so thrilled to see clouds as we don't see them too often in the desert.

Have you ever really 'looked' at clouds? they are beautiful shades of gray, and for us they bring hope of moisture in a very parched landscape. I don't remember seeing rain this year except in Provo, Utah at Women's Conference. Maybe we had some, but I can't recall any, so we would sure welcome it.

DAUGHTERS ARE GOOD!!
I am so proud of my daughter Katie today. I went for an early walk with the dogs and noticed that much of our neighborhood had been Tee-Peed last night (I have no clue how to spell that!!) When I came home and told her she went out, without being asked and cleaned it all up!! How is that for a great kid. :)

CROCHETING AND KNITTING week...
I spent last week working on making children's slippers for LDS humanitarian to distribute. This weekend I decided is for booties. They always need newborn booties at LDS humanitarian for their newborn kits, and we put them in the newborn kits we make for UMC in Vegas. This is a Bev's Book exclusive, well it was, but since we still do not have an interested publisher, and there are so many babies out there with cold feet... I am sharing it with all of you today.

I hope you will make some for a charity you know, or for your local hospitals if they need them. You could even use a size E or F hook to make them for teeny preemies. Or use an H hook, and 4 ply yarn, and maybe add a couple more sts and another row or 2 to make them for older babies? They are easily adjustable. Just experiement and see what works I don't mind.

Bev’s Ridgy Booties © Beverly A. Qualheim – 2007
Crochet Hook Size G
1 oz of Red Heart Soft Baby Yarn

These booties are made using front post double crochet and back post double crochet. These stitches are abbreviated as FPDC and BPDC.

Ch 29 newborn size (25 for preemies)
Row 1: DC in the 2nd chain from the hook, and then in each chain across, ch 2, and turn.
Row 2: BPDC in each dc across. Ch 2 and turn.
Row 3: FPDC in each stitch across. Ch 2, and turn.
Row 4: repeat row 2.

Row 5: repeat row 3 but don’t ch 3 at the end of the row
One side will have ridges the other will have neat ‘pillars’.

Top of bootie (cuff)
Row 1
: slip stitch in 5 sts (6 sts for newborn)
Row 2 : Maintain pattern with BPDC in remaining stitches across row leaving 5 sts (4 sts) unworked at the end of the row.
Rows 3-7: Repeat the pattern, alternating front post stitches for one row and back post stitch dc for the next. Cuff should be about 2” tall so it can be folded down.

End off by cutting a 10” tail. You will have a T-shape that you will fold in half. Using a yarn needle neatly stitch up the bootie front then flip the bootie right side out whichever side you want showing and fold down cuff. Really cute! Even looks like the bootie has a sole.

Things have been busy this week as I have been getting my new LDS Humanitarian yahoo group running. Those groups always are so time consuming- I forget, till they are up and running and and I am doing the background work, answering emails and such.

I changed a group from being 'donate to whomever' to mostly making and donating to LDS Humanitarian, and that is not for everyone. I've answered several emails about it. It's good to know it will all settle down in a few weeks. So if you wish to join, we'd love to have you! You do not have to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints either. You just need a willing heart and hands to make warm items, and you need to donate to LDS Humanitarian at least once this year. The Church encourages us to help those in our communities too so we encourage that.

Many new people have signed up, and many have left. It all works out in the end. :)

Ok- I am kind of a health-nut. I admit it, I use herbs, homeopathic remedies, chelated vitamins for my MS, and I eat pretty strictly Word of Wisdom... I only eat lean meats once a week, and the rest of the time, I eat lots of veggies (I grow as many as I can), fruits (we grow those too - figs are ripe right now!) whole grains, oatmeal, and smoothies!! I like to walk for relaxation, and for my health. I love to swim.

Anyhow, here is one of my fave things to drink!!
Bev's Juicy Smoothie
2 cups orange juice
1 banana
5 frozen strawberries.
1/2 apple- minus seeds!
a handful of wheat grass
1 TBsp honey (cos those strawberries, unless fresh, are sour!)
Blend in blender or juicer and enjoy!!

If you use fresh strawberries, then skip the honey but add some ice cubes to make it thick.

ALOHA??????
I have so much to write today!
Let me tell you about what hubby Mike and I are working towards...

Mike is a FARMERS INSURANCE agent. Now, if he sells 36 Life Insurance Policies before the end of August, we will get to go to HAWAII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to go so badly. We both do. This would be the real honeymoon we never had, and after 5 children, and almost 28 years of marriage, we need it! It sounds so wonderful to me, I can almost hear the waves of the ocean and feel the breeze on my face.

So if by any miracle you know anyone who lives in Nevada, please have them call us. Mike can look at their current policies, and see if he can save them any money. Sometimes details are overlooked and money saving things are overlooked. Mike can find them. He is really good at this and loves helping people find the best rates. Or maybe they just need LIFE INSURANCE? Either way... the number is:

Mike Qualheim 702-497-2350

Have a fabulous day, do good things for others, smile a lot, and HUG THE ONES YOU LOVE!
