County Fair items - THANKS!

I wanted to post a quick message to thank every single person who made and sent items for me to include on our Clark County Fair Humanitarian Aid booth, coming up in April. I have received the most beautiful, warm and loving items from each of you and my heart is filled with thanksgiving for your kind hearts.

I know these items will touch the hearts of many, inspire people to make some to help others, and will warm hundreds of people after the fair when I send them out to LDS Humanitarian, and UMC Hospital.

I laid out a few of the items today so you can see some of them. There are more, but I wanted to just set out a few of each kind.

There are sewed dresses, lots of pretty afghans for babies/preemies, booties, slippers, mittens, hats, scarves, socks, dolls, teddy bears, bunnies, preemie burial gown sets, a wall-hinaging for an orphange, loomed balls for children to play with, lovely sweaters for babies.... oh so many wonderful things!

I am going to sew a couple of boxer shorts for little guys, and make a few more tanned dollies. I also need to run off patterns to hand out for things like mittens and slippers. Also, need to make a couple of banners to hang, as we want to use different ones this year than we have in the past 3 years.

This weekend we celebrate the death and then resurrected, glorious Life of our Savior Jesus Christ with the advent of Easter! I love Easter time. =) We have all our children coming home this weekend, except of course Elder Timothy Qualheim who will celebrate at the MTC in Provo as he prepares to leave for S. Dakota on the rest of his mission.

The girls and I did get a small box stuffed with candy, mailed out to him yesterday! Lots for him to share with the other missionaries. We got our first letter from him yesterday and he didn't say too much yet as he wrote it the night we dropped him off last week. He will do well. My heart fills with love as I think of him out there selflessly serving our Heavenly Father. I know it will be hard for him, as he will feel the deep sting of rejection of the truths we have to share. I have felt that sting so many times in my own life, as I just want to share the gift I have been given, the joy I feel inside, and as my family have all shunned it, sometimes mocked and scoffed at it, even my husband; but the joy is never taken as I try to live what I know to be true, and I know the same will be true for Timmy. I sure love that boy...

Well, I wanted to share this recipe with you so you can try it at your table this Sunday. Enjoy!!

Bev's Mandarin Orange Salad for Easter
1 cup of plain yogurt mixed with 1 TBsp honey
grate 6 small carrots
2 large apples, chopped
2 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges in their own juice, drained
1 cup roasted peanuts
A squeeze of lemon (about 1 tsp)
Chopped up fresh cilantro - 2 or 3 leaves
1 teaspoon black pepper

2 cups raw spinach leaves

Mix all together, except for the spinach, and serve chilled on the bed of spinach leaves.

Materials:
Scrap yarn--only takes a few yards of 4 ply
Size G hook
1-10 mm wiggly eye
1 tiny black pompom for nose, and a bigger white one for the tail
1" pin or piece of magnet strip for the back
(Bunny is 2 1/2" tall to top of ear using 4 ply worsted weight. 2" tall using sport weight)

Directions:
1) Ch 4, sl st to join and form a ring
2) Ch 3, 14 dc in the ring, sl st in top of ch 3.
3) Ch 2, (3 dc, sl st) in next st. (Ch 7, sl st, ch 7, sl st) in next st.
4) Fasten off.
Glue or sew on the eye, then glue on a pom-pom for the nose, and a little one for the tail. I used a small piece of cotton ball for these bunnies. I use dental floss to attach sew on eyes for added strength.
SAFETY NOTE: If you want to put these on baby hats, I recommend stitching on an eye and tail using yarn so they are safe, and then washable too.
