Independence Day!

Tomorrow I likely will not be online a whole lot because we keep very busy on July 4th in Logandale! We have a Flag Raising ceremony with the Veterans, at 6:30 am and then a breakfast, put on by Rotary Club- for the community at 7 am at the fairgrounds.

After that, they have a candy-drop for the kids, games, watermelons, pie eating contest, the local firemen always come with the trucks and spray everyone who wants to be sprayed over in the field! Today's temps were 116 F in the shade on my porch at 3 pm, so that water will be so welcome! They spray you, you get soaked, and 10 minutes later in the sun you are totally dry again.

I bring lawn chairs and a quilt over there under a big tree, and I sit and knit while the kids do the candy drop (they have a teenager one too!) and run around with their friends over there. Always lots of people to talk to and it's just a wonderful small community family atmosphere.

In the evening they have a community dinner put on by the Chamber of Commerce and it is always good! There are bands, music, more fun for the kids, and at 9:30 or so - FIREWORKS! We always go home to enjoy the fireworks though because we can see them so well from home. I bought some sparklers and a few other little fireworks too for us to enjoy. We keep the hose nearby, so if there was a problem we can turn that thing on full blast!

I am either going to knit mittens or socks for the orphanages through LDS Humanitarian tomorrow. I know they need socks right now, so I might make those. They also need baby booties.... hair pretties.... hmmm- decisions, decisions.

I want to close with one of those 'makes you think' quotes from former President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

"I testify to you that God's hand has been in our destiny. I testify that freedom as we know it today is being threatened as never before in our history. I further witness that this land—the Americas—must be protected, its Constitution upheld, for this is a land foreordained to be the Zion of our God. He expects us as members of the Church and bearers of His priesthood to do all we can to preserve our liberty."

--Ezra Taft Benson, "A Witness and a Warning", Ensign, Nov. 1979, 31

Hug the ones you love! Keep everyone safe tomorrow, especially tomorrow night, and
