Looking for a few good women!

Good morning everyone!
I know that out there somewhere, there are lurking people who would LOVE to reach out to help the homeless and displaced. Some of you maybe have helped Warming Families in the past?

We need some more Chapter Area Volunteers, all around the world actually, but especially in the United States. I would like to see at least 2 in every state (and Province! and country!!) to help warm those in need.

Maybe you have thought about doing something like this?

Being a Chapter Area Volunteer is not like you see with most charities, because we are a 'project' of a 501c3 and not the actual charity - which is Alan Osmond's 'Oneheart.org.

~ It doesn't cost money to sign up.

~ You just need to find a shelter, domestic violence, womens and childrens, homeless, could even be the county hospital that serves the homeless and destitute- like I serve in Vegas; or maybe a Ronald McDonald house?

~ Contact them and find out their needs for warm items, hats, blankets - maybe even toys for the kids? Make sure they don't intend to sell items, but that they will give them out.

~ Then let people, friends, neighbors, church friends, online, whoever... know about it, make and collect the items your place needs; and finally keep track of what you make and get, and take those items to your 'shelter'.

~ We also have a great YAHOO group just for the Chapter Area Volunteers- where we help one another find patterns, give words of encouragement - you need to join that.

Very simple... no frills... no costs... just your time and effort to get things to those in need. In fact, if you don't knit or crochet etc, you could still do this! You just need to rally grandma, or mom, or your church ladies or... online friends, whoever can make things, and then you be the collector of those items and you take them to the shelter you choose.

You can all the official details on our WF Leaders page here:
http://www.freewebs.com/warmingfamilies/areavolunteerinfo.htm

Kaye and I would both be so excited to hear from you!! You can email Kaye at uswarmingfamilies (at) yahoo.com or me here bevqual (at) yahoo.com
I hope many of you will decide to become a chapter for your area. I know you will be blessed in so many ways, and really enjoy this work. ♥♥♥

I have a website page for my chapter but you don't need to set one up, or you can! It's up to you. Mine is here:

Hug the ones you love today, pray for them, and pray for peace in this world.

Hats and more

For those of you who are gearing up to help with the Warming Families 25,000 hat challenge, here is my latest pattern for fun hat! It actually has hidden warmth inside!

http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/bevs-hidden-hat.html

I'm really excited about this hat challenge.

I feel there will be more people in need of these warm hats than ever before, with the economy as bad as it is. I am praying that from the start of this project, Sept 1 until the last date, Dec 30, 2009, thousands of us will be knitting, loom knitting, and crocheting to help in this venture! My readers are the most giving, caring people on this earth, and I know we can easily create 25,000 hats!! I think we should aim for 50,000! :) Who's with me?

CHAPTER AREA VOLUNTEERS?
Something else, we definitely need some more 'Chapter Area Volunteers' for Warming Families! It's free to become one, and easy to do. Basically, you find a shelter, nursing home, even a county hospital who needs items like hats, blankets, mittens, scarves, slippers etc. and then people mail or bring handmade items to you and you deliver them to your chosen shelter. For complete details CLICK HERE!
Kaye is a wonderful Project Leader and the yahoo group is great too.

I am the Chapter Area Volunteer for Las Vegas, NV area. I am currently serving UMC (county) hospital there, and you can click on my link to find what is needed.

Thought for the day:

"In Salt Lake City, at general conference on 5 October 1856, this is what President Brigham Young said:

" 'Many of our brethren and sisters are on the plains with handcarts, and probably many are now seven hundred miles from this place, and they must be brought here, we must send assistance to them. . . .

" 'I will tell you all that your faith, religion, and profession of religion, will never save one soul of you in the Celestial Kingdom of our God, unless you carry out just such principles as I am now teaching you. Go and bring in those people now on the plains. And attend strictly to those things which we call temporal, or temporal duties. Otherwise, your faith will be in vain.'"

James E. Faust, "Go Bring Them In from the Plains, Ensign," July 1997, 6

Sunday Thoughts- goals

The other day, my 14 year told me she had her whole life planned out in detail... I marveled and remembered how I once had so many dreams and plans, great goals in detail. Those were wonder filled years!

Now, as I looked at this beautiful daughter, I inadvertently blurted out that I didn't have any goals any more. That I just wanted to work so we can pay our bills, snuggle the grandson I am permitted to, keep on the straight and narrow path, and die peacefully someday. I'd already had the beautiful children I had dreamed of so long ago. Most are grown and have brought me deep abiding joy. For one my heart bleeds; the wrenching ache never goes away. I miss the sweet association with that son. My prayers for him and his family, continue...

Mike and I have been wading through some rough waters for many years, with small breaks on the glorious shoreline; enough to catch our breath.

But goals... survival is all I could think of. And it occurred to me it's because all we have been doing lately IS surviving... but there is more to life!

As I walked this morning, and did my Sunday prayer of thanks for the beauty surrounding me; the beautiful cloudy sky, my children, my grand-babies, my wonderful marriage of 30 years; my health that permits me to continue to walk, food on the table and a roof over my head; I felt impressed that it is time to set goals once again. It is time to rejoice and strive towards good things.

I will be 51 at the end of this week... I could live another 40 years and to do so without goals would be a tragedy. So now, I need to think of a goal or 10, some things to reach for, to strive with all my strength for, to look forward to. Something to bring me hope again.

I have a few sketchy ones, like: Help make my husband's business flourish against all odds; get my humanitarian book published; well, that's 2. I will be in prayer to find more, and to break those 2 down!

GOAL SCRIPTURES:

“Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;

“For the power is in them, wherein they are agents unto themselves. And inasmuch as men do good they shall in nowise lose their reward” (D&C 58:27–28.)

Warming Families ANNOUNCEMENT!

Just a heads up for all you knitters (and crocheters) and people who love Land's End clothing! Remember... this is not happening until SEPTEMBER 2009! :)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

DODGEVILLE, Wis. – July 15, 2009 – Want to feel good about shopping and giving? This fall, Lands’ End will kick off the FeelGood Campaign, a fun way to shop and feel good about giving to homeless individuals and families across the country.

Beginning on September 1st, for every Lands’ End FeelGood item purchased, the company will donate a pound of signature FeelGood yarn to One Heart Foundation’s Warming Families, a nationwide knitting charity. Lands’ End expects to donate thousands of pounds of yarn to Warming Families chapters where volunteers plan to knit up to 25,000 hats and other items to warm the homeless and displaced.

The new FeelGood collection from Lands’ End is made from proprietary yarn that is as soft as cashmere yet features the durability and price of cotton. The collection features a variety of sweater styles, gloves and scarves for women in rich autumnal colors such as Aztec Gold, Charcoal Heather and Winter Violet. The FeelGood sweater is available in a Cable or Striped Cardigan ($69.50) and Turtleneck ($59.50). Items from the FeelGood collection can be purchased online at www.landsend.com, by calling 1(800) 800-5800 and by visiting the Lands' End Shops at Sears. Yarn donations will be made to volunteer knitters throughout the season.

“With a simple purchase, anyone can give back this fall,” said Susan Sachatello, Lands’ End senior vice president of marketing. “We are thrilled to work with Warming Families and appreciate the hundreds of knitters donating their time and talent for this great cause.”

Vickie Howell, national knitting personality and host of the DIY Network’s Knitty Gritty is also working with Lands’ End to help instruct novice knitters as well as create hat patterns for the campaign. Vickie is creating a ribbed-knit hat pattern in an adult and child size, exclusively for the initiative. Lands’ End will share the patterns as well as provide additional information about how all knitters can lend a hand at www.landsend.com/feelgood.
