Celery on your windowsill!

I saw this idea a couple of weeks ago and thought I would give it a try!

So, you cut the base off a bunch of celery, or leaf lettuce, and place the base in a jar or glass, with water, on your window sill! It took the middle one 9 days to grow this much.  I top off the water every couple of days.

This is the first time I have done it, and it is definitely growing new stalks and new leaves.  The celery ones are the middle one and the one on the right.  The one on the left is romaine lettuce.

No clue how this will turn out in the end.  I think the leaf lettuce will be fine, not sure if the celery will need to be transplanted outside in the ground, if it will become so tall the glass will fall over... we will see!

PS-- Hug the ones you love and grow a garden today!

UPDATE: APRIL 2, 2014--- they all fell into their glasses and I planted them out in my small, square foot garden where they are all growing nicely!  We will see if we get to eat from them.  Plus, the romaine lettuce seems to be growing the best.
