A beautiful Sabbath Day, micro preemie hat pattern

This is a beautiful day. Sunday is my favorite day of the week, there is no doubt about it. Church and partaking of the Sacrament, fills my souls with a 'food' I cannot obtain anywhere else.

I am reminded each week that when I was baptized I took upon myself, the name of Christ. I cannot take that lightly, I must not...

I am part of Christ's family. I promise to become like Him in all I do and say, and where I fall short, He always fills in that gap, His Atonement for me covers those weaknesses and faults if I am trying to do my best.

There is a new page on my website that Maureen wrote-- she has been an NICU nurse for many years and these are her tips for making preemie clothes. Very helpful! This little hat is one recommended by many NICU units as they stretch but will also accordian a bit to fit and stay on tiny heads.

I am looking for a pattern for some teeny 1.5" socks we could knit to match. If you know of any links to preemie socks please let me know.

Bev's Micro Preemie Beanie

NICU's love this hat since it is easy to place on babies heads, gentle and stretchy. This hat will fit a 1-1 1/2 lb preemie

Size 3 dp knitting needles (you will need 4 needles)

Scraps of soft sock yarn or baby yarn
Beanie is made in the round, and is approx 3" tall

Beanie
Cast on 40 sts for 1 - 1 1/2 lb preemie-- split them onto 3 needles 14, 14, 12 sts
K2, p2 around for 24 rows
Decrease:
Knit 2 together around for
2 rows. Where you can't knit 2 together, just knit that 1 stitch.
End - Cut yarn leaving an 8"" tail.
Run needle and yarn through remaining sts on needle. Pull to draw shut.

A great crocheted PREEMIE HAT AND BOOTIES!

HUG THE ONES YOU LOVE!!

Hey Bev, I am a crocheter and not a knitter (Sorry) the pattern you showed for crocheted booties and hat...do the nurses like them also?

Or is there another crocheted pattern to use to make them stretchable as the knitted pattern.

Thanks !

Hi
Yes, the NICU nurses love the knit 2, purl 2 hats because of the stretch.

I do have a pattern on my site that was given to me to post by UMC hospital in Vegas.

I will add it to my blog today, as it is stretchy and nice.

I have them posted on another page too though. It should read
2 - 2 1/2" and it does on that page I posted above. Not sure where you saw those where I am missing the 1/2"
