Booties

Working on an old pattern of mine. There is a great need in humanitarian areas for newborn booties, consequently you can find lots of lovely newborn bootie patterns online. It occurred to me that there are not so many patterns for older babies, who still need to be warmed. So, I am working up some other sizes for this pattern.

SIZES:
size 4 needles and sport weight or baby yarn = 3.5" bootie (newborns)
size 4 needles and worsted weight yarn = 3 3/4" - 4" bootie (3-6 month)
size 8 needles and worsted weight yarn = 4 1/2" - 4 3/4" bootie (6 months - 1 year)

MATERIALS:
Size 4 (8) Knitting needles and baby weight, sport yarn or worsted weight yarn; yarn needle

Cast on 34 sts.
Rows 1-14: work in garter stitch (knit every row) (7 ridges).
Rows 15 and 16: K2 tog twice at start of row, knit across.
Rows 17 and 18: Bind off 3 sts at start of row, knit across.
Rows 19 - 32: K2, p2 ribbing for top of bootie.

Bind off and cut yarn about 3" long - use yarn needle to weave tail inside bootie. Fold bootie in half.

Cut a 15" long piece of yarn and starting at heel, sew up foot seam and half way up ribbed area, leaving half of the ribbed top open!

Flip bootie right side out and fold top down for easy foot-inserting.
