Basic Granny Square - written out by Bev
Size
H hook – 4 ply Worsted Weight yarn (I use Red Heart Super Saver and love it!)
START: Chain 4, join with a
slip stitch to your 1st chain to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 3, make 2
double crochet inside ring, * (Chain 2 [corner], make 3 double
crochet in ring);
repeat from * 2 times more, chain 2, slip st in top of beginning chain 3.
Slip st in the next 2 double crochets to the corner.
repeat from * 2 times more, chain 2, slip st in top of beginning chain 3.
Slip st in the next 2 double crochets to the corner.
Round 2: Chain 3, (2 double
crochet, Chain 2, 3 double crochet) in same space/corner – chain 1,
then *(3 double crochet, Chain 2, 3 double crochet in next corner,
Chain 1); repeat from * 2 more times, join with slip stitch to top of
beg - Chain 3.
Slip stitch in next 3 double crochet to the next corner.
Slip stitch in next 3 double crochet to the next corner.
Rnd 3: Ch 3, (2 double
crochet, Chain 3, 3 double crochet) in same space/corner, – chain 1,
make 3 double crochet in the ch1-space/hole, chain 1,
*(3 double crochet, Chain 3, 3 double crochet in next corner, Chain 1, make 3 dc in the space/hole, Chain 1); repeat from * 2 more times, join with slip st to top of beg- Chain 3.
Slip stitch in next 3 double crochet to the next corner.
*(3 double crochet, Chain 3, 3 double crochet in next corner, Chain 1, make 3 dc in the space/hole, Chain 1); repeat from * 2 more times, join with slip st to top of beg- Chain 3.
Slip stitch in next 3 double crochet to the next corner.
Do 5 rounds to make a 6” square or repeat this
pattern until square is the size you want.
HINTS: Always chain 2 to form
the corners, and always chain 1 to form a ‘bridge’ between your groups
of 3 double crochet.
Blanket Sizes using 6" Granny Squares
Crib Size: 5 squares across by 6
squares down (30 total = 30" x 36")
Child size: 6 squares across
by 8 squares down (48 total = 36" x 48")
Twin size: 8 squares across by 12
squares down (96 total = 48" x 72")
I will
also accept them for CRAFTING ANGELS
- any colors, but red, white, and blue would be lovely for our vets in
nursing homes in Vegas. Mail 1 mail as many as you want, and our volunteers at CRAFTING ANGELS will stitch them together into lapghans.
